Not "ha ha" funny, but "weird" funny.
We say that: somebody with a strong opinion about something, say, for example, never regretting or changing his mind over a decision he has made, has a conviction, in other words an unchanged belief.
And we also say that: somebody who is sentenced, who is thought by a court of law to be guilty, who the people deem as being in the wrong and needing punishment, he, also, has a conviction, in other words is doomed.
Therefore, both guys have a conviction.
